Rapper Dr. Dre and music mogul Jimmy Iovine have donated $70 million to create an entrepreneurial undergraduate program on the University of Southern California, the Chicago school said on Wednesday.
The gift can create a brand new degree pulling faculty members in the university's business, beaux arts, music and engineering departments.
The Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology plus the Business of Innovation begins inside fall of 2014 and enroll a first class of 25 students, USC said.
Dr. Dre, whose real name is Andre Young, and Iovine came up with popular headphones Beats by Dr. Dre in 2006, successfully transitioning Dr. Dre's popularity like a rapper and hip-hop producer in the electronics market.
"The vision and generosity of Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young will profoundly influence just how many of us perceive and experience artistic media," USC President C. L. Max Nikias said inside a statement.
"Our goal is usually to make sure that the academy is easily the most collaborative educational put in the world," Nikias added.
USC said this course will bring in "icons and innovators" as visiting faculty members and speakers.
This course, that is to be headed by beaux arts dean Eric Muhl, will even require students to finish 1 year long group project.
