Disney taps 'Kon-Tiki' filmmakers to direct Johnny Depp in 'Pirates in the Caribbean 5'

Hot off their acclaimed foreign film "Kon-Tiki," directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg are in final negotiations for the coveted job to direct "Pirates on the Caribbean 5" for Disney, TheWrap has learned.

Johnny Depp is defined to reprise his beloved, Oscar-nominated role of Capt. Jack Sparrow from the sequel, which is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. Jeff Nathanson wrote the past draft with the script.

Rønning and Sandberg recently dropped beyond Legendary's "Spectral" mainly because it became apparent the "Pirates" job was theirs to get rid of. They pulled ahead of director Fredrik Bond ("The mandatory Death of Charlie Countryman") to the sought-after gig.

Rønning and Sandberg are talented filmmakers who had been pursued by several studios following success of "Kon-Tiki," that has been nominated just for this year's Language Oscar plus set on the river.
